A small budget for Hayward home.  The lawn was removed, broken concrete from the back was used to round the narrow walkway.  A dry creek now diverts the storm water run off from the street.  The Manzanita is centrally located and will be the focal point as it reaches its full height of 15 feet.

Blooming:  Winter: Ceanothus, Manzanita .  Spring: Western Redbud, Summer: Penstemon, California fuchsia.  Summer/fall: a variety of Buckwheats and grasses.

Before, from below.
Before, from above.  Three diseased Sequoia were removed to allow for plenty of sun which the fruit trees, vegitables and sun loving perennials will enjoy.
After, from below: the "Rustcovered shoveler" bird sculpture does not seem to frighten the Great Blue Heron that visits.
dry creek; not just for show.

The old concrete and redwood decking was repurposed for the grape arbor and the permeable paving.
New planting:  Simply adding well proportioned plants can improve an entry.  The Santa Cruz Island Ironwood tree will become as tall as the house also providing some privacy.

The poppies and the ceanothus combo are a show stopper.

Detail of some color
This home in southern  California needed some curb appeal.

The wispy open canopy of the Palo Verde allows light  through to the understory of sun loving plants.  Once established, this garden requires no irrigation.
This garden is on the 2011 Mar Vista Green Garden Tour
Over 40 species of birds can be spotted in and over the garden.  Placing some houses invite them to set up residence here while adding charm.
